Pharoah SANDERS
(1940 – 2022)
At the end of the 1960s, a trinity of saxophonists - John Coltrane the "father", Albert Ayler the "holy spirit" and Pharoah Sanders the "son" - led free jazz towards spirituality. The last survivor of this blessed era, Farrell "Pharoah" Sanders has passed away on 24 September, three weeks shy of his 82nd birthday, at the end of a rich career punctuated in 2021 by a final miracle: the album "Promises" with Floating Points and the London Symphony Orchestra.
